Booking Ocoee River Rafting: 7 Critical Questions to Ask
Planning your family vacation is exciting. To ensure you choose the right outfitter and get the best value, here are the most important questions to ask before booking your whitewater rafting adventure on the Ocoee River.
How Much Time Will We Spend on the River?
Rafting trip lengths vary. For the Upper or Middle Ocoee sections alone, expect to spend about three hours on the water. If you choose the Full River experience (Upper and Middle back-to-back), set aside six hours for your total trip time.
Will We Receive Pictures of Our Rafting Trip?
Nearly every reputable rafting company takes photos of guests on the river. The key questions to ask are: How many pictures are taken and at how many different locations? Also, confirm if the pictures are available to view prior to purchase.
What's Included in the Trip?
A trip's inclusions speak to the overall quality. All of our rafting trips include free swim time, lots of river play, and surfing on stable waves. The Full River trip also includes time to experience the historic 1996 Olympic Course on the Upper Ocoee River.
How Many People Ride in Each Raft?
This is a critical question, as there are no industry standards. On the Ocoee River, outfitters typically load four to six guests plus a guide. We believe a 6:1 ratio or less is optimal for maximum fun and interaction with your guide. If you book for six people, you can guarantee a private raft dedicated to your group's desired experience.
Do I Need to Rent a Wetsuit or Splash Gear?
At Ocoee Watersports, wetsuits and splash gear are available at no extra charge when needed. The Ocoee is a relatively warm river, especially during the peak season (Memorial Day to Labor Day). However, if you are cold-natured, you are always welcome to request gear to stay warm on any trip.
What Is the Classification of the River?
The river's classification gives you a clear idea of the rapids to expect. If you are new to rafting, we recommend the Class III Middle Ocoee for family-friendly fun. Those seeking more excitement and thrills should choose the Full River experience to take on the Class IV action of the Upper Ocoee and the 1996 Olympic Course.
How Experienced Is My Guide?
Guide experience varies dramatically. While some young guides are recently trained, others have been rafting commercially for years. Then there are those of us, like myself, who are lifelong river enthusiasts with decades of rafting and kayaking experience. If guide experience matters to you, be sure to request a specific guide or an experienced guide when you book.
