Round Two of the Fight to Ride Free in NC

Article and photos by FastFred Ruddock

Columbus North Carolina Courthouse

September 13, 2007 I appeared in court for a helmet citation in Polk County. I patiently waited as we were called in alphabetical order. When my case was finally called the Assistant District Attorney asked me if I had a helmet and asked to see it. I showed her a "safety helmet" and she told me it was not a helmet. However she immediately dismissed my case. This took me by surprise. Upon parting the Assistant District Attorney asked in a somewhat worried tone if she would be seeing more of me. I am not sure of the why or why not but the state trooper spoke with the judge and other just an hour before my ticket was tossed.

Quigley died two days after this ticket was dismissed. If you would like to show your respects try to get a ticket for riding without a helmet and fith it in court. Two days after Quig's passing Roger's helmet ticket in Henderson County was dismissed.

Wet Day at Court on September 13

This is the ticket on July 7, 2007
