1st Annual East Coast Freedom Ride: Helmet Law Protest!Photos and article by FastFred Ruddock; May 20, 2007 How this effort really came about is still somewhat of mystery to me. I do recall that Jan made a post to the NC Biker list and afterwards the idea gained a life of its own. Bikers from South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia took part in the 1st Annual East Coast Freedom Ride. Everyone seemd to have plenty of fun and smiles. Most have vowed to do it again next year. Some are even talking about a fall run. Jan gave each participant a free patch. We passed several North Carolina police cars along our ride but there was no effort made to stop us. Some riders wore lids while other choose not to wear helmets. Jeff, Connie, and Scott took an extended ride west on Hwy 74 back to the upstate. The others of us rode back on 301 through small towns like we were in a cheap B-rated biker movie. Stay tuned for more information so you won't miss the next freedom ride!
