AMA and HD spoke to motorcyclists
rights activists and explained their stances on the EPA issue. While
many of us may not agree with them at least they did speak on the
subject. GTR - Global Technical Regulation and the UN need to be watched
by bikers acrosss the world and by our SMROs. NGO - Non-Govermental
Organization to the UN now includes the MRF, FEMA, FIM and AMA. WP
29 contracting parties USA, most of Europe, and Japan that have agree
to pass laws in accoerdance with GTR. Visit AMA's web site for more
information.
Eric Lundquist of HD spoke
at lenght about the International Harmonization and why large corporations
such as HD welcome it. The international market place consists of
three major regions that have different rules. Harmonization would
reduce manufactoring complexity and increase safety in HD's opinion.
Eric used headlights as an example: USA, Europe, and Great Britain
each have different headlight beam pattern requirements. HD claims
there is confusion about the location of controls on different makes
and in different countries. Other saftey concerns are related to motorcycle
safety research of leg protectors, air bags ISO WG22, ISO 133232.
Concerns about burns caused by air bags worry bikers.
