Waikiki is a very tourist oriented city; I found the city to much like Miami and similar large city tourist traps. However there were interesting sites to see near by. Polynesian Cultural Center - June 16, 2006
The Polynesian Cultural Center reminded my of a cross between scout camp and the Cherokee Reservation in the North Carolina mountains. The Haleakala Crater was even more alien in person than viewed at the end of Jimi Hendrix's Rainbow Bridge movie. This location was used to trian for the first moon landings by NASA. Lahaina Maui - June 20, 2006
The town of Lahaina on the island of Maui was my favorite stop. I enjoyed meeting some of the local kids near the public library. If you visit this town be sure to take your time and spend some time along the waterfront. My brother Scott and Kyle found a watering hole with two dollar beers. Kona on the Big Island - June 21, 2006
Kona had historical sites including the site pictured below where the bodies of kings were prepared for inturnment. I met a friendly soul at the Hard Rock Cafe that read about this web site in Biker Magazine. I noticed lava high in iron rusting in the surf. Kauai was another great place to visit the local were very friendly. There seems to be a daily gathering held on Kauai very similar to our weekly safety meeting.
