Connestee Falls
Photos and article by FastFred Ruddock
Local folklore holds that Cherokee Princess Connestee leapt
to her death at these falls after her English husband left her to return the
so called English civilization. Dr. F. A. Miles named the falls at convergence
of Carson Creek and Batson Creek after Princess Connestee. Dr. Miles owned
the Ceasar's Head Hotel in 1882. Whether there was a Princess Connestee and
if she lost her life at Connestee Falls remains in doubt.
Connestee Falls is located on private property. Access is provided
for free to the upper overlook but new owners have blocked
access to the base of the falls. Connestee Falls are located
six miles south from downtown Brevard on US 276. Look for
a sign that reads "Top of the Falls Realty."
